Krohn Colheita 1999
Krohn has gained recognition over the years for its phenomenal Colheita Ports. Colheita Ports come from a single high-quality year and are bottled with a minimum of seven years' ageing in wood. As a rule, they are only bottled immediately before being sold, which can happen well after the seventh year. For this reason, our Colheitas remain in wood for a long time, and acquire over time a mahogany color characteristic of old Tawnies, as well as a fine, complex bouquet, notes of walnuts and hazelnuts and a silky texture.
Auburn in the centre with a broad amber rim. Rich, smooth nose of overwhelming density and complexity. A rich base of caramel and butterscotch combines with opulent aromas of treacle, plum pudding, dried figs and sultanas. As the wine opens up, it reveals pungent notes of nutmeg and black pepper, hints of vanilla and oak, notes of apricot, plum and marzipan. With a smooth, silky texture and dense, spicy flavours, the palate has an attractive, lively freshness and impressive persistence. A majestic wine with multiple dimensions of flavour, developed over two decades of barrel ageing.
